Texas: The
Lone Star State holds many distinction including largest of the contiguous
states. In addition, it has the second largest population and leads the nation
in many of its most important sectors including energy, agriculture, electronics
and aerospace. Texas is also the largest net exporter of the nation’s
states.
Cattle and then oil spurred the growth of Texas, but during the mid to late 20th
century its economy truly blossomed as it embraced the newest technologies and used
its oil revenue to invest in the educational future of its residents. Today, the
state has one of the best endowed and effective university systems in the
world.
The economy of Texas is undoubtedly world class and ranks with those of Canada and
India. It is particularly renowned for its “ low taxes, low services” business
philosophy. The state is regularly ranked as having the first or second most
business friendly environment of any U.S. state.
Culturally, the state is as multicultural as L.A. or N.Y.C. Obviously, it has
significant Latino population but its cities are well known to have significantly
large populations that hail from outside the state itself and the country as a
whole. For a diverse, change of pace where business and personal freedom are king,
look no further than the great state of the home of cowboys, oilmen and
astronauts.
