About... The first decade
of the new millennium saw a tremendous growth in the population
of San Antonio and it is now the seventh largest city in the
United States with over two million inhabitants.
The city has a strong military presence with half a dozen major
installations in or near the city limits. In addition to the
defense industry, the city is also boasts a strong energy sector
and is home to the Fortune 500 companies Valero Energy and Tesoro
Energy.
The city is a highly popular tourist destination as well. In
addition to the venerable Alamo and the historic downtown
Riverwalk, the city hosts the Alamo Bowl, the annual Stock Show and
Rodeo and is home to the theme parks, Six Flags Fiesta Texas and
SeaWorld.
Founded by Spanish missionaries in the late 17th century, San
Antonio has maintained a strong Spanish influence. The historic
downtown district includes well preserved buildings from each of
the past four centuries.
In short, San Antonio offers a rich and varied life to its
inhabitants. There are opportunities across a wide range of
industries including finance, healthcare, energy and education. Its
pro-business culture should see this city continue to grow and
prosper.
