About... Arlington's
365,000 residents share a history of a community that had
experienced rapid growth from 4,000 people before World War II
to 261,000 by 1990. From a suburb of Dallas it became a
"boomburb" due to the expansion of automotive and aerospace
industries. It’s home for the state’s second largest university,
the University of Texas at Arlington.
The recession
depressed economic growth in the Fort Worth-Arlington area to
1.9 percent year-to-year May 2012. The unemployment rate had
reached over 8 percent by June 2011 and had declined to 6.7
percent by May 2012. All sectors have experienced job growth
except information, which declined 2.1 percent.
The construction,
financial activities, leisure and hospitality, and professional
and business services sectors showed the largest increases.
Education and health services and manufacturing also had good
year-to-year job growth figures. Manpower expects growth in
leisure and hospitality and information to remain unchanged by
year’s end.
Top among the city's
over 10,000 employers include the school district, the city, the
University of Texas at Arlington, Cowboys Stadium and General
Motors.
Kelly Services updates open positions on its
website. The Texas Workforce Commission offers job lists
and other helpful resources.
