About... Named for the
hardy, abundant and extremely flavorful tree that gives Texas
BBQ its unique taste and smell, the city of Mesquite, TX has
plenty of flavor, all its own. Located just a few miles west of
Dallas, the city is an uncommon mixture of refined high-society
aspirations and rodeo chic.
Founded in 1878 as a stop on the then important railroad line
between Dallas and Shreveport, Mesquite enjoyed great success as an
agricultural community. It really blossomed after World War II by
embracing its roots and also technology. Over the years it created
the regional Pro Rodeo tour, built the first air-conditioned mall
in the United States and developed a well-orchestrated, suburban
infrastructure.
Most recently, the city has garnered a reputation as a community
that values families as well as businesses. In addition to the Pro
Rodeo, it also has an Arts Center and the aptly named Rodeo City
Music Hall. Mesquite may not suit everyone but it is an ideal place
to raise a family, retire in or start a small business.
