West Jordan was
named for the river that runs through the town, and has
mushroomed since it was first settled in 1848. It's Utah's
fourth largest city with a population of 104,000.
This town, like many others in the Salt Lake area, was built on
copper, and the Bingham Canyon Mine is still the city's largest
single employer. The city has diversified economically however,
with regional powerhouses such as SME Steel, Mountain America
Credit Union, and Lynco Sales & Service having their
headquarters here.
The education, health, and retail sectors in West Jordan are also
thriving, with 4 large retail developments already and new ones
being planned, and Salt Lake Community College's largest
campus-soon to be the main campus-in the area.
