About... Minnesota's
capital city, St. Paul is second only to neighboring Minneapolis
in terms of population. Together, the Twin Cities are home to
about 3.3 million people, making it one of the largest
metropolitan areas in the USA. Not bad for a settlement
originally known as Pig's Eye after the legendary part-time
bootlegger Pierre “Pig’s Eye” Parrant established a popular
tavern there.
Today, a snappy nickname and eye patch are no longer prerequisites
for success in St. Paul, which along with neighboring Minneapolis
and Bloomington, employs over 1.5 million private sector workers.
One of the largest corporations headquartered in the city is
Ecolab, purveyor of chemical and cleaning products and one of the
best places to work in the area according to the Minneapolis/St.
Paul Business Journal. Other large companies include Securian
Financial Group Inc., business software and support provider Lawson
Software, and Gander Mountain, a sporting goods retailer with 115
stores in 23 states.
The 3M Company is often said to be a Twin Cities business, even
though it is located in the adjacent city of Maplewood, MN. 3M
employs over 16,000 people throughout the state. Medical device
manufacturer St. Jude Medical proudly calls the city home as well,
giving job seekers a wide range of exciting
opportunities.
