About... Located an hour
north of Chicago and thirty minutes south of Milwaukee, Racine,
Wisconsin, offers a small-city feel with convenient access to
bustling metropolises. Although this manufacturing city lost
thousands of jobs during the 1980s, the community has turned its
city around and the economy is growing steadily.
The city’s large employers offer work in diverse fields, including
healthcare, education, and government. Twenty percent of the city
works in manufacturing at companies including Bombardier Motor
Corp, CNH America LLC, and In-Sink-Erator. Racine serves as the
corporate headquarters of S.C. Johnson Wax, a privately owned
chemical manufacturing company. Ten percent of employees work in
education or health services, and another ten percent work for the
local and county government.
The city’s downtown was recently renovated. The city’s center now
features a marina, a park, office space, condominiums, and more
than fifty retail shops. Wisconsin is currently working to expand
the light rail system into the city to allow quick transport to
Chicago and Milwaukee.
The city’s diverse economy, convenient highway access to major
cities, and high level of community involvement make Racine an
exciting place to be.
