About... The city of
Pasadena is a place where tradition and modernity coexist. As
host to the Tournament of Roses Parade and the Rose Bowl college
football contest for over a century, the city is steeped in
history and nostalgia. As home to CalTech, the Jet Propulsion
Laboratory and the Art Center of College and Design, the city
and its inhabitants are also on the leading edge of both
technology and the arts.
Downtown Pasadena or “Old Town” is the cultural hub of the city
with numerous museums located there as well as the world renowned
Playhouse and their symphony orchestra. It also plays host to the
monthly flea market where thousands of vendors and tens of
thousands of visitors buy and sell everything from antiques to
modern art.
The economy of the city is dominated by the healthcare and
technology industries as well as numerous educational institutions.
Still, for a city of 100,000, Pasadena maintains a small town feel.
There are no skyscrapers other than those in nearby Los Angeles. In
addition, the city is blessed with a mild temperature that rarely
sees rain or snow. Like the rest of southern California, it is an
excellent place for those who love the outdoors.
