About... After breaking a
record of over 50 million visitors last year, Orlando, FL,
residents stand proudly as part of the most popular destination
spot in the country. The 238 thousand residents center the two
million-populated Greater Orlando metropolitan area that
includes Orange County of which the city is the county
seat.
People from all over
the world go to the city to enjoy the Walt Disney World Resort,
the Universal Orlando Resort and SeaWorld among many other
popular attractions. With an 8.2 percent unemployment rate in
April 2012, the city is only experiencing a slow recovery from
the recession. Over 1,600 retail jobs were lost the last four
years.
The city has over 120
companies of which several represent the city's large footprint
in hi-tech industries. These companies include Lockheed-Martin,
Mitsubishi Power Systems, Advanced Micro Devices and Planet
Hollywood. There are several companies involved in the
simulation industries for the U.S. military. Electric Arts and
Universal Studies both produce high-end digital media in the
gaming and movie areas.
Job seekers can use
the Workforce Central Florida website to find job listings and resources.
The Sentinel newspaper also has a website for finding and applying to jobs in
central Florida.
