About... Unbeknownst to
many in the U.S., Muskegon is actually the largest city on the
eastern shore of Lake Michigan. As such, it forms the backbone
of that area’s economy and its cultural life.
While the area was
once a rich in natural resources like lumber and furs, the
economy of the 21st century city is centered largely on
manufacturing with some high-tech companies thrown in for good
measure. In particular, Muskegon is home to the headquarters of
Wesco, Inc. and to large divisions of Pratt & Whitney,
General Electric Aviation and L3 Technologies.
The recreational
activities of central Michigan are dominated by the lake but
there are several local arts groups and festivals. Of note, he
West Shore Symphony Orchestra, and the local Civic Theatre host
a variety of events throughout the year including the Summer
Celebration.
During the winter,
life in this Michigan city is dominated by the snow and the cold
with most people staying close to home but the summers are
spectacular for hiking, boating and hunting. Muskegon offers a
great way of life for single, couple and families. It is not a
“big” town but it is a great one.
