About... The 233,000
residents of Madison, Wis., reflect a vibrant, active population
of whom nearly one-sixth are students. As a major education hub
of the country, it's the satellite location of several
institutions of higher learning and home to the widely respected
University of Wisconsin-Madison.
The city is Wisconsin’s state capitol and is spread out around four
lakes. There are plenty of water-sports activities, bicycle paths,
museums and arts and music festivals and venues. Unique
architecture includes works of former resident Frank Lloyd Wright
and the impressive multi-structure Overture Center for the
Arts.
In contrast to the rest of the state, Madison's economy stayed
above water during the recession, maintaining one of the country's
lowest unemployment rates, which was 5.6 percent for February 2012.
In March, the information services sector had a 4.6 percent
increase followed by growth in the education and health services
and leisure and hospitality sectors.
Madison is the seat of Dane County, and danejobs.com has an
up-to-date list of resources for job seekers looking for work in
the city and the half-million populated county. The city’s top
employers include the University, Epic Systems Corp., American
Family Insurance, UW Health and SSM Healthcare of
Wisconsin.
