About... The "Heart of
Georgia" beats in Macon. Located near the geographic center of
the state, this town of 100,000 serves as the county seat of
Bibb County and a crossroads for commerce in Georgia.
Transportation has always been the name of the game in Macon. The
town was founded because of its location at the northernmost
navigable point of the Ocmulgee River.. The city remains a
transportation hub today sitting astride interstate highways 75 and
16, two busy truck traffic routes.
The huge Robbins Air Force base, home of the 48th Infantry Brigade
Combat Team, is just south of Macon and a boon to the local
economy. The health care sector is represented by The Medical
Center of Georgia. Financial and insurance companies are also major
employers in the city.
Anyone looking for transportation industry or white-collar job
opportunities in a historic town with a great climate and
reasonable cost-of-living should consider Macon,
Georgia.
