About... Mobile is the
third highest populated city in the state of Alabama. When the
2010 census was taken, the city had a population of over 195,000
within the city limits.
Mobile, Alabama has major industries that include medicine,
construction, steel, aerospace, ship building, retail services, and
manufacturing. The economy worsened for a few decades, but
recovered in the late 1980s. During the period of 1993 and 2003
there were almost 14,000 new jobs created, 87 new companies
founded, and approximately 400 existing companies that
expanded.
Mobile's Alabama State Docks experienced a huge expansion when its
container processing and storage facility expanded and the
container storage increased tremendously.
The county's largest private employer is the Brookley Complex, the
airport located downtown, providing employment to approximately
4000 people.
