About... The city of
Lansing reflects an attractive sophistication. It is the state
capitol of Michigan; it has experienced outstanding industry led
by the former Olds Motor Vehicle Company, and it is an education
hub.
The city’s geographical compass of the Mid-Michigan, Lansing
Metropolitan Area includes the University of Michigan and several
affiliated medical centers and schools. The popular Lansing
Community College is well-integrated into upper degree programs,

the nation's largest.
Unemployment that was 8.3 percent in December 2010 was at 6.9
percent January 2012 among the city's 114,000 residents. Employment
growth was noticeable in the manufacturing and education and health

Ingham Regional Medical Center, Jackson National Life, Michigan
Millers Insurance Company, Michigan State University, Michigan
state government and Sparrow Health System.
The city has a thriving high-tech industry. Niowave has hired
technicians, machinists and physicists for its particle
accelerators, and Emergent Biosolutions has a wide recruitment base
for its vaccines and pharmaceutical commercial products.
