About... Kansas City is a
vibrant Midwestern city of nearly 460,000 located on the western
border of Missouri. The city breathes out energy of industry and
creativity from a rich history as a frontier town that emerged
through significant Civil War battles and a period of gangsters
and jazz. It has become an architectural splendor of boulevards,
parks, casinos, large churches, and federal government
entities.
Besides hosting headquarters for H&R Block, Sprint Nextel,
Hallmark Cards and the Dairy Farmers of America among other
enterprises, the Internal Revenue Service, Social Security
Administration and the General Services Administration are some of
the government centers located in the city.
The unemployment rate for Kansas City was 7.3 percent December
2011, dropping from 8.6 percent a year ago. The economic sectors
that showed job growth through 2011 were manufacturing, government
and professional and business services. Education and health
services, leisure and hospitality reversed declines.
Well above average projections through 2014 were scored for jobs as
business and construction managers; business and finance workers,
computer software engineers, support specialists, and network
administrators; architects and civil engineers; lawyers and
paralegals; teachers; register nurses, occupational and physical
therapists; carpenters, electricians and plumbers; HVAC workers and
construction laborers.
