About... Everett's 103,000
citizens can claim an economy built on logging and the shipping
trade. Lying on the central part of the Puget Sound waterways in
Washington state, the Port of Everett leads out to the Pacific
Ocean. Boeing is the city's largest employer followed by the
Naval Station Everett Homeport.
As the seat of Snohomish County, the economy of the city and the
surrounding area has faced a sluggish recovery. The February 2011
unemployment rate was 10.5 percent. The February 2012 unemployment
rate rose to 8.9 percent from 8.7 percent in January. Private
employment had lost 900 jobs. Overall, manufacturing had increased
to 12.3 percent year-to-year by February 2012.
Construction job lost may have hit bottom and appears to be making
a turnaround. Boeing, centering the city's aerospace industry,
depends upon a host of local companies in its supply chain. These
companies require skilled workers. The city joins state efforts in
supporting educational programs that orient machinists toward
engineering degrees.
WorkSource Everett will be hiring 60 Fish Processors to work during
summer and job seekers should contact Aerotek for material handling
and warehouse positions. The site ChooseWashington.com keeps
abreast of various employment opportunities in the city and other
areas.
