About... Fort Worth's
740,000 residents stand behind an exciting Western heritage of
cowboys, gunfights, and a transportation and stockyard industry
that had shipped and received cattle through the Chisholm Trail.
The city's fabled Hell's Half Acre went through several noted
eras of reform and modernizing with discoveries of nearby oil
wells.
The top employers are in the aircraft and defense industries and
include American Airlines, Lockheed Martin and the U.S. Naval Air
Station Joint Reserve Base Fort Worth. Additional employers include
Texas Health Resources, the school district and the University of
Texas Arlington.
As the county seat of Tarrant, the city shares job growth sectors
with Arlington, expanding to a metropolitan area that also includes
Dallas. Fort Worth-Arlington had a 7.0 unemployment rate December
2011, falling from 8.5 percent early 2010.
Fort Worth sectors showing job gains through later 2011 to February
were mining, logging, and construction; manufacturing; education
and health services; and leisure and hospitality. The financial
activities, information and professional and business services
sectors had declines.
Specific positions for job seekers include petroleum engineers,
home health aides, network systems operators and ushers and lobby
attendants. Other positions are elementary and middle school
teachers and various health technician professions.
